Once upon a time, there lived a washerman named Dhruv. One day, while at the pond, he spotted a beautiful lady, the daughter of another washerman. Instantly smitten, he pleaded with his parents to ask for her hand in marriage. His parents approached the girl’s family, and she, named Madhavi, married Dhruv with her parents’ consent. After the wedding, Madhavi went to live with Dhruv.
One day, Madhavi’s brother, Arjun, came to invite his sister and brother-in-law to their home for the festival season. Dhruv agreed, and the three of them set off for Madhavi’s home. On their way, they passed by the temple of Durga Devi, the powerful goddess of power. Arjun wanted to pay his respects to the goddess and entered the temple. Overcome with devotion, he decided to offer a massive sacrifice and cut off his head for the goddess.
Madhavi grew worried and sent Dhruv to see what had happened. Upon discovering Arjun’s state, Dhruv was deeply moved and decided to offer his head to the goddess as well. He cut off his head with his scimitar. After a long wait, Madhavi saw her brother and husband lying on the ground. She decided to take her own life but asked the goddess to grant her the same brother and husband in the next life.
Pleased with her devotion, the goddess stopped her from dying and instructed her to join their heads and bodies. In her haste, Madhavi accidentally exchanged the heads of her brother and husband, causing her confusion.
Now the question: “Who among the two is the husband of Madhavi?”
Ans: “The body that carries her husband’s head is her husband. The head is the most important part of the human body, and the rest of the body is identified by the head.”
