The Honest Woodcutter

The Honest Woodcutter- Once upon a time, there resided a diligent woodcutter in a petite village. His dedication to his craft was unwavering, and his integrity unmatched. Each day, he ventured into the neighbouring forest to harvest timber. Carrying the logs back to the village, he sold them to a merchant, earning his livelihood. Though his earnings were modest, he found contentment in his unpretentious existence.

One fateful day, while felling a tree near a meandering river, his axe slipped from his grasp and plunged into the depths of the water. The river was unfathomably deep, leaving him bereft of any hope of retrieving it alone. With only a single axe, now lost to the river’s embrace, anxiety enveloped him as he contemplated how he would sustain himself. Overwhelmed by sadness, he beseeched the divine intervention of the Goddess.

Moved by his sincere prayer, the Goddess materialized before him and inquired, “What troubles you, my child?” The woodcutter elucidated his predicament, humbly requesting the Goddess to recover his axe.

Impressed by his unwavering honesty, the Goddess smiled and once again immersed her hand into the water. This time, she presented his iron axe and inquired, “Is this your axe?” Filled with relief, the woodcutter claimed, “Yes! This is indeed mine!
